The official bulletin for the Corps Opening on the Holiness Table, prepared for this special occasion.
The Salvation Army, Elizabethtown, Kentucky first opened ministry as a Service Unit in 1980. Originally it was called the Hardin County Service Unit, located at 308 W. Dixie Highway. By April 2000, The Salvation Army was an established partner in the community with support for the mission. As Hardin County grew, Headquarters saw the missional impact and it was announced that this unit would be upgraded to a Service Center, moving from just emergency assistance to a broader focus of spiritual care. In July of 2000, Majors Robert and Sandra Snelson were appointed as the Officers in charge to lead this transition.
In 2003, the Hardin County Service Center moved to it’s current location at 1006 N. Mulberry St. in Elizabethtown. Sergeant Jason Swain was appointed to be the administrator. Over the next decade, The Salvation Army administration leadership fluctuated from officer personnel to local personnel as the ground work continued to be laid for further growth. God honored the work of the many hands that contributed time and talent to the mission. In 2006 Ms. Barbara Wright was hired as the Service Center Director. Wright left in 2008 and the Divisional Service Unit Director, Ray Dalrymple, and his assistant Dina Minor took over operations. In 2010, Lt. Marie Inmon was appointed as the Officer in Charge. In 2012, Captain Joseph May was appointed to Elizabethtown. When Captain May was moved in August 2013, Ray Dalrymple once again took over operations of the Service Center. Ms. Faith Miller became the Director December 2013,and in January of 2015, Lisa Heflin was hired as Director.
In March 2015, Heflin was officially installed as a Sergeant and appointed as Service Center Administrator. Sergeant Heflin, with the assistance of her husband Paul Heflin, invested time and effort repairing property and facilities and holding Salvation Army corps services and programs. Over the past 2 years, these services have grown, and today, May 7 2017, the Hardin County Service Center officially becomes the Elizabethtown, KY Corps; staking claim as part of the Kentucky-Tennessee Division of The Salvation Army Southern Territory., USA.
